“After major flooding in our neighborhood in both 2010 & 2013, a few neighbors got together to see what we could do at a community level to keep flooding to a minimum. Unaware of the “Adopt-A-Stream” program at the time, we relied on our Councilman, Anthony Davis, our Nashville Beautification Commission Rep. Tony Viglietti, and Environmental Engineer, Lance Wagner to help us get organized.
The group “Friends of Cooper Creek” was founded in 2014 with the mission of keeping our creek clean and free of blockages. We coordinate two cleanups each year, and we have significantly reduced flooding issues along the creek.
With Cumberland River Compact’s help, it’s now so much easier to coordinate our cleanups, educate our neighbors and promote ways to keep our lovely Cooper Creek clean. We have learned a tremendous amount about Davidson County watersheds. We officially adopted Cooper Creek in 2017 and look forward to working with CRC to continue our mission.” –Mary Alice, Friends of Cooper Creek
