The Watersheds Program - Collins River Watershed
Currently, we are working in the Collins River Watershed. The Collins River Watershed includes the towns of McMinnville, Altamont, Gruetli-Laager, Beersheba Springs, Morrison, Viola, Centertown and everything in between. The streams in this watershed were assessed in 2000, as part of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) watershed management cycle. This is a five-year planning cycle and a watershed management plan is created for each watershed following its assessment.
Assessment data are based on the 2000 Water Quality Assessment.
This picture shows the stream impairments in the Collins River Watershed. The causes of these impairments include loss of riparian habitat, specialty crop production, pasture grazing and mine drainage.

Know what the major Cumberland River pollutant is? Well, it is the DIRT and
the other "stuff" from our yards, our roofs and our driveways that runs off
every time we have a good rain.
If we all kept our dirt in our own yards, the river would be a lot healthier
and safer for everyone.
Visit the Sediment page to learn more about Muddy Waters and what YOU can do
to keep your dirt at home.
