The Watersheds Program - Cordell Hull Lake Watershed
Description: The Cordell Hull Lake watershed includes all of Jackson County and parts of Clay, Macon, Overton, Putnam and Smith Counties and drains 782 square miles. The Cordell Hull Lock and Dam on the Cumberland River was completed in 1973 and is operated as a hydroelectric plant by the Corps of Engineers.
There are 894 stream miles and 13,901 lake acres in the Cordell Hull Watershed.
Parts of Blackburn Fork, Roaring River and Spring Creek are in the State Scenic River System because of their natural qualities. This watershed also contains three subecoregion reference sites: Flat, Spring and Flynn Creeks.
Know what the major Cumberland River pollutant is? Well, it is the DIRT and
the other "stuff" from our yards, our roofs and our driveways that runs off
every time we have a good rain.
If we all kept our dirt in our own yards, the river would be a lot healthier
and safer for everyone.

to keep your dirt at home.
